KYRGYZSTAN - THE HEART OF THE CENTRAL ASIA

 

Etimology: “Kyrgyz” is believed to have been derived from the forty clans of Manas, a legendary hero who united forty regional clans to be strong against the enemies. 
Location: Post-Soviet republic situated in Central Asia. Landlocked and mountainous, it is bounded on the north by Kazakhstan, east and south-east by China, on the south by Tajikistan and on the west by Uzbekistan. 
Capital: Bishkek, which is in the north of the country, near the border with Kazakhstan, with approximately a million inhabitants. 
Population: 7 million. Majority are Kyrgyz ( 72.6 % ) , Uzbekhs ( 14.4 % ), Russians ( 6.4 % ), Kazakhs, Koreans, Chinese and other ethnic groups. 
Language: Kyrgyz is the National language and because the country was under a strong cultural influence from the Russia the language is rather Russified as an official language. Most ethnic groups use Russian as the language of communication. 
Territory: 198.500 milles km2. 94 % of the territory are the mountains, dominated by the massive Tien- Shan and Pamir. The highest peaks rise above than 7000m.
