Nomadska Avantura: A 14-Day Journey Through Kyrgyzstan’s Soul on Foot and Horseback

From high-altitude trekking over 3300m passes to galloping across the pastures of Son Kul, this two-week epic is the definitive way to experience the nomadic heart of Central Asia.

There’s a moment on the Jumatay Pass, at 3,240 meters, when the sheer scale of Kyrgyzstan truly hits you. You’ve spent the morning trekking through the Juukuchak Gorge, and now a panoramic view of the entire range unfolds beneath your feet. This was just one of many unforgettable moments on our 14-day “Nomadska Avantura.”

This tour is the ultimate blend of physical challenge and deep cultural immersion. For days, we trekked through valleys with names like Kychy Kuzul Suu and Chon Kuzul Suu, our only companions being local shepherds and their flocks. The rhythm was simple: hike, breathe in the pristine air, and soak in hot springs at the end of the day.

Then, the adventure shifted. We traded our trekking boots for saddles, learning to ride sturdy Kyrgyz horses across the vast, high-altitude expanse of Son Kul Lake. Later, at the ancient Tash Rabat caravanserai, we embarked on a horseback expedition to 4,100 meters, where we spotted herds of yaks and gazed towards the Chinese border.

The journey is bookended by cultural treasures—from the Dungan Mosque in Karakol to the bustling Osh Bazaar in Bishkek. It’s a demanding trip, but every sore muscle is a testament to the incredible landscapes crossed and the ancient nomadic spirit you’ll connect with along the way.
